REPORT ON CURRENT FLOODING SITUATION IN ENTIRE VIETNAM(According to Bulletin No. 36/BC-PCLBTW issued by the Standing Office of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, as of 19 May 2004)
Damage caused by rains and floods due to the impact of the Tropical Depression No. 1 as of 19 May 2004 is as follows:
1. Binh Thuan Province:
- Number of people dead: 03 ( in Phan Thiet city)
- Number of people missing: 0
- Number of houses submerged: 50
- Number of boat broken: 01
2. Dong Nai Province:
- Number of people injured: 03
- Number of house collapsed: 10
- Number of house roofed off: 33
- 10,000 of rubber trees broken, 3 ha of rubber and 6 ha of cashew damaged
3. Long An Province: 53,790 ha of summer-autumn rice inundated.
4. Tien Giang Province:
- Number of house collapsed: 11
- Number of house roofed off: 2
5. Tra Vinh Province:
- Number of houses collapsed: 40
- Number of houses roofed off: 43
Loss estimated at VND 285 million ( US$ 17,000)
6. Ha Giang Province:
- Number of people dead: 01
- Number of houses collapsed: 08
- Number of houses roofed off: 206 including 9 classrooms, and 12 rooms of the border guard station 163.
- Transportation was interrupted with the Ma bridge linking Ha Giang province with Tuyen Quang province on the Highway No.2 collapsed and 50,000 m3 of soil eroded.
- Agriculture: 15 ha of crops totally damaged.
Total damage of Ha Giang Province was estimated at VND 800 million ( over US$ 50,000).
