IMMEDIATE REPORT ON CURRENT FLOODING SITUATION IN NORTHERN VIETNAM(According to Bulletin No. 35/BC-PCLBTW issued by the Standing Office of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, as of 18 May 2004)
Damage caused by rains and floods due to the impact of the Tropical Depression No. 1 in northern provinces as of 18 May 2004 is as follows:
1. Ha giang Province:
- Number of people dead: 01
- Number of people missing: 0
- Number of houses collapsed: 08
- Number of houses roofed off: 206 including 9 classrooms, and 12 rooms of the border guard station 163.
- Transportation was interrupted with the Ma bridge linking Ha Giang province with Tuyen Quang province on the Highway No.2 collapsed and 50,000 m3 of soil eroded.
- Agriculture: 15 ha of crops totally damaged.
Total damage of Ha giang Province was estimated at VND 800 million ( over US$ 50,000)
2. Tra Vinh Province:
- Number of houses collapsed: 40
- Number of houses roofed off: 33
