NDMP Typhoon Utor Daily Update

Situation of typhoon Utor (typhoon No. 10)

At 4 am on 13 December 2006, the typhoon center was at 16.2⁰ N latitude; 112.8⁰ E longitude, 100 km away from Hoang Sa Island in the South, Southeast. The strongest wind force near typhoon center was at Beaufort Scale12, 13, gusting above Scale 13.

As forecasted, the typhoon would move to the West and North West during next 24 hours, with its speed of 10 km per hour. At 4 am on 14 December 2006, the typhoon would directly affect territorial waters offshore of central provinces, 90 km way from Hoang Sa Island in the North – West.

Due to its impact, in the North and centre of East Sea (including territorial waters of Hoang Sa Island), there will be strong wind at  Beaufort Scale 10, 11; and Scale 12, 13, gusting above 13 at the near typhoon center. The wind force will gradually strengthen to Scale 6, 7 and then Scale 8 and 9 in the territorial waters offshore of Central Part.

Prevention and preparedness with the typhoon Utor

Central level:

Relevant Ministries and sectors are in effort to prepare with and response to the typhoon. CCFSC had sent Telegraphs to CFSCs of provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Ca Mau and Kien Giang to direct the implementation including inform for news and direction of typhoon, call ships and boats moving to shelters, control parking places of ships and boats and prepare measures to evacuate people if typhoon landing and so on.

Local level:

Provinces are in effort to implement measures to cope with the typhoon. The results are as follows:

31.412 boats/ ships with 164.527 fishermen were informed, in which 24.097 boats/ ships (119.431 fishermen) have moved to shelters.

Quang Ngai, Ninh Binh, Nghe An and Quang Binh still have some boats and ships fishing offshore and are on the way back.
