Damage update caused by hailstorm and whirlwind in some provinces in the North region of Vietnam during 3 days (19-21/11/2006)

I. Damage

Damage caused by whirlwind and hailstorm in the North provinces was reported as follows:

1. Human:

-  Dead people: 11 people, (Quang Ninh: 10 people, Phu Tho: 01 people) reduced 02 people compared to the 22^th November report,  including 02 people died of collapsed houses, 01 people died of collapsed crane, the rest died of sunk boats.

-  Missing people: 03 people (in Quang Ninh), reduced 01

-  Injured people: 22 people (Quang Ninh: 21 people, Bac Kan: 01 people), reduced 34 people compared to the 22^th  November report

2. Property:

            -  8,892 houses roofed out and collapsed (increased 87 houses compared to the 22^th  November report)

            -  115 ha of rice damaged

- 15,220 ha of agricultural produce damaged and thousand of trees felt down  

-  32 boats and ships sunk and broken

-  04 cranes fallen

The total estimated damage in property: 342,05 billion VND (Quang Ninh 160 billion, Ha Tay 100 billion, Vinh Phuc 74 billion, Phu Tho 6 billion, Bac Kan 1,2 billion, Lai Chau 0,61 billion, Lang Son 0,14 billion and Cao Bang 0,1 billion)

II. Recovery 

- Ministry of Fisheries sent urgent Telegraph No. 36/TS-PCLB issued at 10 AM of the 22^th November, 2006 to Director of Quang Ninh Fisheries Department request them continue to search and rescue missing people and support timely to affected people.

- Provinces and cities affected by hailstorm and whirlwind should continue to implement the recovery and early stable people life.
