Summary of Current Disaster Conditions in Vietnam
1. Storm damage potential: STORM No.8 (Kaitak) – IN EFFECT.
2. Situation Analysis of the Tropical Depression: (According to daily bulletin issued by the Hydro-meteorological Service of Vietnam in Hanoi at 7:30AM on November 1, 2005)
In the past two days, due to impact of the Storm No.8’s west side, Thua Thien Hue province, Quang Nam province and Quang Ngai province have experienced heavy rain and severe rain in some areas. Until 7:00AM November 1, 2005, rainfall is around 200 to 250mm.
Today’s early morning, the Storm No.8 have moved faster.
At 7:00AM November 1, 2005, the centre of the Storm No.8 was situated at around 15.4oN latitude and 110.1oE longitude, 250 km far from the east south-east of seashore Thua Thien Hue – Quang Ngai.
The strongest wind force measured near the centre of the Storm No.8 was at Beaufort Scale 10, 11 (89 to 117 km per hour), with the wind gusting to above Beaufort Scale 11.
Forecast:
In the next 24 hours, the Storm will be moving slowly to west north-west direction, with a speed of 10 to 15km per hour, along the coastal area from Quang Ngai to Ha Tinh provinces.
As result, the strong wind caused from west side of Storm No.8 affect directly to Provinces from Quang Ngai to Thua Thien Hue, then continuously affect to Provinces from Quang Tri to Thanh Hoa.
Due to the impact of storm, the south sea area of Paracel Island will experience cyclone at Beaufort Scale 10, 11 with the wind gusting is to above Beaufort Scale 11. Coastal area of the north of Central Part and middle of Central Part will experience strong wind with the wind force is at Beaufort Scale 9, 10; in the area near to the storm eye is at Beaufort Scale 11, with the wind gusting is to above 11. Sea is very rough. The Provinces from Quang Ngai to Thua Thien Hue will experience strong wind with the wind force is at Beaufort Scale 7, 8, then strengthened wind force at Beaufort Scale 9, 10, with the wind gusting is to above Beaufort Scale 10. In provinces form Quang Ngai to Ha Tinh, there will be rain, heavy rain, especially in provinces from Quang Ngai to Thua Thien Hue, there will be heavy rain and severe rain. Beware of flash floods and landslide.
The coastal areas from Ha Tinh Province to Quang Nam-Da Nang need to beware of water raising from 2 to 3 m due to impact of Storm No.8 and flood-tide.
The Storm Kaitak will develop complicatedly, be active in catching news on this storm and the hydrological bulletins.
